Hiding In Plain Sight
Knowing how to blend in to your surroundings is a great asset when playing paintball. The object is to blend in, without having to actually find a hiding spot. Hiding spots are not always readily available.
Begin by choosing the right gun, equipment, and clothing. Keep your playing environment in mind, and choose colors that blend in well with the surroundings. Also, use camouflage paint on the parts of your body that are exposed, such as your hands or arms. It is important to choose the right shoes. Boots make more noise than rubber soled shoes. If you have a hair color that will not blend in well with the surroundings, make sure it is covered.
To hide in plain site, you will need the skill of stealth. You need to be able to move without making noise or drawing attention with the movement. Often times, it is best to stay low to the ground, in which case you may be mistaken for a log or a boulder. This does take practice. Take a friend out in the woods play a game of hide-and-seek. This will allow you to see what movements, actions, or other factors may be giving you away. When you practice, try to use a similar environment to the one you will be playing in. Wear the clothes and carry the equipment that you plan to play with as well.
Practice breathing quietly. Breathing through your mouth is quieter than breathing through your nose. Avoid swallowing when anyone is near, as this makes noise. Often, you will be tempted to stop breathing altogether, when anyone is near. This is not a good idea, as you do not really know how long that person will be near. Ultimately, when you must breath again, that first breath will be noisy. Do not hold your breath. However, learn to breathe from your diaphragm. This moves your stomach instead of your chest, which will be less noticeable if your clothing is loose.
Hiding in plain site can be fun. However, if it is possible, always choose a good hiding spot instead.
